Routt County Climate Action Plan Collaborative Accepting Community Member Board Applications

The Routt County Climate Action Plan Collaborative is accepting applications for one 3-year Community Member Board seat through Friday, November 28, 2025. The Collaborative Board meets monthly and consists of 9 members, including 4 community members and a representative from each of the local government partners — Routt County, City of Steamboat Springs, and the Towns of Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa.

The Routt County Climate Action Plan Collaborative was formed in 2021 to create an intergovernmental, organizational structure to help facilitate regional decision making, track implementation of the Routt County Climate Action Plan (CAP), and help secure funding to advance the CAP. The latter effort resulted in a 2024 $264,100 award to the CAP Collaborative by the Colorado Energy Office to develop and implement a county-wide building electrification and decarbonization plan. The grant is underway and will enable local governments to take action toward curbing Routt County’s top source of greenhouse gas emissions (buildings).

In 2023, the CAP Board oversaw five Working Groups (Energy, Transportation, Waste, Land Use and Economy) tasked with identifying and prioritizing key actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Routt County. 40 Board-approved recommendations were finalized the summer of 2023 and the Collaborative is now in the implementation phase of the CAP process.

“Addressing climate change is vital now more than ever as we are already seeing climate impacts here in the Yampa Valley. For the roughly 25,000 residents that call Routt County home and the hundreds of thousands who visit annually, these changing conditions impact our health and safety, our local economy and community, and the recreational opportunities and natural environment we all enjoy,” commented CAP Board Chair Gail Garey. “What we do locally matters and Board membership is an important opportunity to offer substantive expertise and to support and keep Routt County accountable to its carbon emission goals.”

Community representatives shall reflect diverse geographic and sector representation from across the county, and climate plan interest and experience.  The application can be found here . The deadline for submitting community applications is Friday, November 28, 2025. Appointment will start January 1, 2026.
