Hayden Station’s coal-fired facilities are set to retire in 2027 and 2028 and will need to be replaced with cleaner sources of energy to meet forecasted demand and the state’s clean energy goals. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is currently seeking public comments on Xcel Energy’s Just Transition Plan as it pertains to next steps for Hayden Station. The plan will have an immense impact on the future of our region, from determining potential renewable energy resources at Hayden Station to replacing lost tax revenues that impact our schools, to replacing jobs and other vital community infrastructure.
